Short Term Risk Assessment - Mission (im)Possible ?

Risk assessment makes almost no sense without a systematic risk management and implementation plan. I have worked together with Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) for years and have seen how an evidence-based trauma informed training package which includes an evidence-based risk assessment and management implementation plan have contributed to improved work environment and service users’ safety and wellbeing. Through this process of collaboration with CPI we have seen how this combined approach significantly reduces the likelihood of conflict and aggression in the first instance, improves the way staff respond to conflict and escalating behaviours when they do occur, and as a direct consequence, reduces the use of coercive and restrictive practices.  Moreover, it also ensures that any necessary use of restrictive practices remains focused on the person’s behaviour and risks presented by such behaviour in moments of crisis.
